Commissioner Nieves has extensive experience in the criminal justice system, having served most recently in the State of Connecticut’s Court Support Services Division. She was administrator for the Regional Bail and Adult Probation Services, where she managed and provided direct regional oversight to over 140 supervisors, adult, bail and support employees working in five criminal courts situated in New Haven, Middletown and Meriden. She has been a devoted advocate, working with Judicial Branch committees serving people with limited English proficiency, women, youthful offenders, and others. Nieves has been a Red Cross volunteer, and works on various groups to increase cultural competence and diversity. Nieves, who holds a B.A. in Political Science with a minor in Public Administration from Central Connecticut State University, was appointed to the PCSW by Speaker of the House Brendan Sharkey.
